As part of the ongoing efforts to modernize public procurement processes in Malawi, the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) is currently conducting a Training of Trainers (ToTs) program in preparation for the national launch of the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS).

The training, held this week, is designed to equip selected PPDA staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate and operate the MANePS system efficiently. These staff members will play a crucial role in the rollout of the system by serving as trainers for other stakeholders, ensuring smooth adoption across all levels.

The training is being facilitated by Perago Information System, the Ethiopian-based company that developed MANePS in collaboration with Malawi's Mitra Systems Limited. This initiative forms a critical part of the broader Digital Malawi Program Phase 1, funded by the World Bank, with the aim of enhancing efficiency, transparency, and accountability in public procurement.

Speaking at the training, PPDA Director General Edington Chilapondwa emphasized the importance of this exercise, noting that MANePS is not just an internal PPDA efficiency improvement project, but a national flagship program that will revolutionize procurement across Malawi. He urged participants to fully commit to mastering the system as they will be instrumental in training others and ensuring successful implementation nationwide.

MANePS, which is set to transform Malawi’s public procurement landscape, is part of the government’s larger reform agenda under the Malawi National Public Reforms Policy. The system digitizes the entire procurement process, from tendering to contract management, making it more accessible, transparent, and efficient.

The upcoming launch of MANePS will mark a significant step forward in improving public procurement processes and fostering public trust. The involvement of the PPDA in leading this reform underscores the authority’s commitment to promoting good governance and accountability across Malawi’s public sector.

With the completion of the ToTs program, PPDA staff will be fully prepared to support the launch of MANePS, ensuring that it delivers on its promise to streamline procurement processes and drive the nation's digital transformation.
