Steady Steps to Public Digital Procurement: MANePS Onboarding Launches in Salima

The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) is making significant strides towards a fully digital procurement system in Malawi with the continued rollout of the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS).

One of the key milestones is currently underway in Salima, where 32 pilot Procuring and Disposing Entities (PDEs) are being onboarded on the MANePS. This phase marks a major step in digitizing procurement processes in the country. This phase is with tailored training, system walkthroughs, and on-site support ensuring users can seamlessly adopt and integrate the platform.

A significant highlight reached during the onboarding session is that all 32 pilot Procuring and Disposing Entities (PDEs) have successfully developed and submitted their Annual Procurement Plans through MANePS. The experience gained by these 32 pilot PDEs in uploading their Annual Procurement and Disposal plans for 2025/26 Financial Year marks the first crucial practical step in implementation of the system.

Speaking at the official launch of the onboarding exercise, PPDA Director General Dr. Edington Chilapondwa emphasized the importance of digital skills in today’s professional landscape. He noted that mastering electronic procurement does not only boost institutional efficiency but also enhances individual career growth in a digital-first public sector.

By the end of the onboarding program, participants are going to be well-versed in key components of the system including the e-GP Marketplace, e-GP Tendering, MANePS Overview, Identity and Access Management, and the procedures for submitting and evaluating bids and Requests for Quotations.

Following this pilot, more PDEs will be gradually integrated, as PPDA remains committed to building a transparent, efficient and accountable procurement system across all sectors.
